William Robinson's self-portraits have played a significant part in his artistic production since submitting his first Archibald Prize entry, William with Josephine in 1984. In 1987, Robinson rose to national prominence when he won the coveted portrait prize amongst much controversy with Equestrian Self Portrait. He subsequently won a second time with Self Portrait with Stunned Mullet in 1995 - placing him in the exclusive company of Brett Whiteley as being the only dual winners of the prestigious prize to win with self-portraits.
A portrait of the artist is the first comprehensive exhibition of William Robinson's self-portraiture from the winning Archibald entries, farmyard paintings and French lithographs produced at Atelier Bordas, Paris.
